Lower Rhine, the Netherlands, & the Ruhr region
Among the most popular destinations are the Movie Park Germany in Bottrop, the pilgrimage city of Kevelaer, and nearby Xanten with the largest archaeological open-air museum in Germany. Deep in the west of North Rhine-Westphalia, close to Wesel, lies the Ruhr region with its metropolises for shopping, musicals, and sightseeing. Within 30-60 minutes, you can reach Duisburg, Essen, and Bochum for day trips. Düsseldorf in the Rhineland, with its beautiful old town, is only about 60 km away. In the Netherlands, we recommend the old Roman city of Nijmegen (80 km away) and the gardens of Appeltern (100 km).

In Xanten, you can immerse yourself in a world where the Romans once had the say. And also into the legend of the Nibelungs, whose supposedly invincible hero Siegfried was born in Xanten. In the Xanten Archaeological Park and the Roman Museum, you can discover how important this city, founded here by the Romans, was for the Roman Empire.
You can also visit the following sights in Xanten: Gothic St. Victor's Cathedral, Klevetor, Karthaus, Siegfried Mill and the Kriemhildmühle, Siegfried Museum, Xanten Abbey Museum, Museum of Money. If there is still time left or for another visit: In Xanten, there is the Adventure Park, a high ropes course for active adventurers.

- For explorers of nature: Wesel flood plain with the "Lower Rhine" bird sanctuary, Hohe Mark-Westmünsterland Nature Park, Diersfordter Forest Nature Reserve north of Wesel with a game preserve, and moor adventure trail in the "Großes Veen" moor.
- Kevelaer: The Chapel of Mercy on the Chapel Square, the Marian Basilica, and the Way of the Cross characterize the Maria pilgrimage site. From June 2020 in Kevelaer: Solegarten St. Jakob. Our tip: The Kevelaer hot air balloon festival in July is a highlight.
- Castles & palaces: Anholt moated castle and the nearby Anholter Schweiz Park, the Raesfeld Castle, Kamp Monastery with. baroque garden in Kamp-Lintfort and other fortresses and castles.
- Moyland Castle Museum: modern and contemporary art as well. as an international research center. on Joseph Beuys - a cultural highlight in the neo-Gothic castle complex in Bedburg-Hau.

Excursion destinations in the Ruhr region & Rhineland
From Wesel you can reach the Ruhr region and the metropolises of the Rhineland:
- Duisburg: The largest inland port in the world is located here – take a boat ride. Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park: Today culture and leisure are the order of the day where there used to be industry. Our tip: Enjoy the great view of the Ruhr region from Furnace 5.
- Bottrop: Movie Park Germany. We are an official partner hotel and have attractive Movie Park offers. Further sights: alpincenter Bottrop for skiing, summer tobogganing, and body flying in the wind tunnel. Haunted labyrinth in North-Rhine Westphalia, Schloss Beck leisure park für families.

- Bochum Starlight Express musical, German Mining Museum, Zeiss Planetarium, Bochum Zoo

Relax and get active in Wesel
- Indoor swimming pool in Wesel & the Heuberg Sauna: For a spa feeling in Wesel, the pool with the Heuberg Sauna is just a few steps away from the Hotel Kaiserhof.

- Golf on the Lower Rhine: Play on the magnificent golf courses on the Lower Rhine. The closest ones: the 18-hole tournament course and 9-hole golf course at the Weselerwald Golf Club, the 18-hole course at the Issum-Niederrhein Golf Club, and the 18-hole championship golf course including a 6-hole practice course at the Golfpark am Schloss Moyland.
Lakes around Wesel
Take a bathing break from sightseeing
The sun is shining. The water glitters. In the floodplain near Wesel, Lake Auesee offers 160 hectares of water surface for swimming and water sports. For sunbathing and swimming we recommend the bathing bay with sunbathing lawn and sandy beach. Lifeguards are on duty on the weekends and during the holiday season. In other areas, people meet up to play beach volleyball or go sailing or diving. Access to the lake is free, but there is a charge for parking. From the Kaiserhof, you can reach the beach at Lake Auesee in 40 minutes on foot and 12 minutes by car.
On the other side of the Rhine in the village of Alpen, the recreational Lake Menzelen is also a popular bathing lake and can be reached by car in about 10 minutes. the Xanten South Sea, the Xanten North Sea, Tenderingssee, Lange Renne, and Bislicher Meer are further bathing lakes on the Lower Rhine where you can relax on your holiday.
